Mullican Flooring Helps Provide New Specially Adapted Home for Severely Wounded Army Veteran
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., May 14, 2022 — Mullican Flooring, a leading manufacturer of quality hardwood floors, has provided flooring for a new smart home for a wounded military veteran through the Gary Sinise Foundation R.I.S.E
program (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment).
The Gary Sinise Foundation serves U.S. defenders, veterans, first responders and others through multiple programs, including R.I.S.E. The program provides specially adapted, mortgage-free smart homes for the nation’s most severely wounded heroes, as well as home modifications, mobility devices and adapted vehicles to injured, wounded, ill and/or aging heroes.
A home that included Mullican flooring was recently dedicated for U.S. Army Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Jason Tabansky in San Antonio, Texas. Sgt. Tabansky enlisted in the Army in December 2000 as a Chinook helicopter mechanic. When 9/11 occurred just weeks after he entered basic training, he volunteered to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and served two tours in Afghanistan. He served a third tour of duty in Taji, Iraq, for a year in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In September 2015, Sgt. Tabansky fell from a ladder following a routine demonstration of a new Chinook helicopter and became paralyzed from the chest down. While recovering at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, he was inspired by other severely wounded soldiers there who refused to allow their conditions to hinder them. Through intense physical therapy, he regained control of his hands, but remains a paraplegic. Since his injury, he has become an avid hunter, fisherman, competitive archer and bass player for his church. He also spends time coaching and working with children, and hopes to earn a degree in education and start a family with his wife, Courtney.
“It is a privilege to participate in a cause as worthy as the R.I.S.E. program, and we are honored to provide beautiful wood flooring for Sgt. Tabansky’s new home,” says Neil Poland, president of Mullican Flooring. “We are tremendously grateful for his service to our country, and commend him for his desire to help others and the inspiration he provides to us all. It is our hope that this specially adapted home will make daily life much easier for him and his wife, and that they will receive much enjoyment from it for many years to come.”
One of the nation’s top five hardwood flooring producers, Mullican Flooring operates additional production facilities in Norton, Virginia; Holland, New York; and Ronceverte, West Virginia.
